Settling in

Parent Information

We have a great settling-in system in place to make sure both the parent and the child are happy before the child starts his/her regular sessions

We have a strong Parent partnership here at Little Elms. We beleive that having a long lasting and  strong bond with the parents has a positive impact on the children, teachers and the nursery as a whole

On the 1st day, the child will attend the nusery just for 30 minutes with the parent. Gradually we will increase the time to 1 hour without the parent over a few days as the child becomes more comfortable.

  • We encourage parents to stay for the initial part of the session to provide comfort and reassurance. Gradually, parents can step out of the room for short periods, allowing the child to build independence.
  • The child and parent are introduced to thier assigned key person, who will be their primary caregiver and source of comfort in the nursery. This helps the child build a sense of security.
  • Children are allowed to bring a favorite toy, blanket, or comfort item from home to help them feel more secure in the new environment.
  • We are very flexible with routines during the settling-in period to adapt to each child’s comfort level and emotional needs. We observe the child’s cues and adjust the routine accordingly.
  • We try to maintain a consistent daily schedule for the settling-in sessions, as predictability can help children feel more secure. Consistent drop-off and pick-up times help establish a routine.
  • We provide feedback to parents after each settling-in session, sharing their child's progress and any observations. Parents are encouraged to share their thoughts and any concerns.

  • We then gradually extend the child's time at the nursery, moving from shorter sessions to full-day participation when the child appears comfortable and happy.
  • Ppsitive reinforcements are used to celebrate small successes during the settling-in period. Reassuring both the child and parents that the process takes time and each child adjusts at their own pace is a funademntal part of our settling process
